LOCATION Baker County is located 20 minutes west of Jacksonville. The county is 131 miles east of Tallahassee (Florida's Capitol and home of Florida State University) and 45 miles north of Gainesville (home of the University of Florida). The north side of the county borders Georgia. The county has three square miles of water. The average January temperature is 55.0 degrees F. and the average August temperature is 81.2 degrees F. The average rainfall is 49.27 inches.
Interstate 10 crosses Baker County east and west with five county interchanges. Highway 90 runs east and west through the town of Macclenny, Glen St. Mary, Sanderson, and Olustee. The county's rapid development and growing population are primarily due to its prime location and accessiblity.

GOVERNMENT AND SERVICES The Board of County Commissioners is a five member board elected to represent the citizens of Baker County. Each member represents a district, but is elected county-wide. The Commission establishes policies and appoints a County Administrator to implement the policies and manage the operation of Baker County. The Commission adopts the millage rate annually and approves the budget, which determines the expenditures and revenue necessary to operate all county departments. Jacksonville International Airport is 40 minutes from Baker County, Lake City Municipal Airport is 30 minutes away, and two other airfields, Craig and Herlong, are located in Jacksonville.
